I found my Mexican chiropractor quite by accident. This was one of many examples of divine intervention in my life. After being diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, I began spending more and more time in this hot Mexican climate. I had developed a very bad intolerance to the cold – something that many Lyme sufferers can relate to. The intense heat, I found, really helped to keep me moving around, sweating and detoxing.
Traveling with Lyme requires a monumental exercise of the will. In early February 2013, I left my home in Canada for Cozumel. I stepped out of the terminal not looking particularly healthy and feeling like I had one foot in the grave. My expat friend Maria picked me up at the airport. That afternoon, she and her partner Joey mentioned a certain chiropractor who was really helping some of their friends. Without really consenting to an appointment, I found myself in the back of their jeep and on my way to his office. Maria just has that way about her. I honestly didn’t have the energy to put up a fight.
“Look well to the spine for the cause of disease” – Hippocrates
When I arrived, he just happened to have an opening, and I was desperate for relief of any kind. Joey and Maria were instructed to pick me up in 45 minutes. He began the session with iridology. This is a careful study of the iris to detect imbalances, toxicity and disease in the body. This was the first time I had ever had this done. He peered into my eyes with a small light and just said “Oh…Oh… Oh” in a rather concerned tone of voice. His English is better than my Spanish, so we communicated in English. He then began a form of chiropractic, visceral and lymph drainage massage. It was very painful. He worked on pressure points and adjusted my spine. At the time, I had a pronounced curvature in my upper back. It was also difficult for me to hold myself up straight, as I was already in such a weakened state.
A Strange Experience
I flipped over onto my back and he began massaging the base of my skull. There was no pain or memory welling up inside, but I began to cry. The tears just poured out of me for what seemed like a very long time. I was embarrassed to be crying, as I had no control over it and hardly knew him. He told me it was ok and to just let it all out. He continued to work on all of the pressure points, lymphatic drainage points and almost every inch of my body. He never cracked my neck but pulled me up on the table by my neck as though he was trying to stretch me taller. I told him I did not want my neck cracked. He then went over my back with a vibrating thumper deep tissue massager.
I got off the table and started to cry again, uncontrollably. I was very shocked, as I felt perfectly comfortable crying in front of him, yet without pain or distressing memories. He told me it was ok, to sit down and to cry until I didn’t need to anymore. So I did. After what seemed like an eternity, I stopped. He told me that I had a lot of “old sadness” stored in my body and that it was being released. I had heard and read about this but had never really believed it like I do now. I think our bodies hang onto everything that we are not able to express and release.
After this treatment, I felt euphoric. I felt lighter and better than I had in years. I asked him when I should come back. He told me every 2 or 3 weeks. I learned later on that because I was so sick, I wouldn’t have been able to handle the toxin release more often. I was very sick after that first visit. I drank liters of water and did many enemas to clear the toxins being released. My urine was orange for days afterward. After these early visits, it would take me about 5 days to recover from seeing him.

the frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” – Thomas Edison
Senor Paz is a true healer. His treatments are not meant to be ongoing. He fixes the problem and then you don’t need to see him again unless another problem arises. I have probably gone to see him about twelve times in the two years of initial treatment. This was due to the fact that I was so sick and had so many different issues. He is so happy with my progress. He told me that when I first walked into his office he really didn’t know what to work on first. I have always followed his instructions regarding superfoods he recommended for my diet, and followed up with the exercises he encouraged me to do. He took away my big puffy pillow for over a year, and my neck problems gradually went away (I switched to a very thin pillow, as I felt really deprived). Now I sleep without a pillow. He certainly straightened my spine. No doubt about it. I only need to see him once or twice per year now, and that is all.
I miss him and his sense of humor. I remember one visit when I jokingly complained about the deep tissue massage and asked him to ease up. He laughed and confessed that most people only saw him once and never came back because of the pain associated with releasing the body’s rigid holding patterns and the toxins they held. People in the waiting room could hear my groaning, and I was surprised to see them still waiting when I came out. They knew the value of his treatments and recognized the pain as part of their own healing journey.
I have seen Senor Paz with a number of problems related to poor skeletal alignment and organ displacement. In each case, he has managed to put things back in their proper position. With his adjustments, tightened tissues are restored to their proper range of motion, and loosened ligaments are able to return to their correct state. The overall result is a better body-emotion connection, and an improved ability to process toxins and heal. I understand that there aren’t many around like Senor Paz but if you can find yourself a good chiropractor that can simply straighten you out I’m sure you will experience the benefits.
