Five Ways to Eliminate and Control Parasites, Sibo and Candida

October 26, 2016 Brenda Cosentino

I had a serious parasite problem that consisted of roundworms, tapeworms, flukes and ropeworms that I battled for several years. Added to these were sibo(small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), candida, lyme disease, bartonella, ebv and babesia. It seemed that I would reduce the pathogenic load only to relapse within weeks or months. It wasn’t until I did the following that I was able to eliminate these chronic infections. I have been in complete remission since November, 2014.

1.Starve them
Switched from the SAD (Standard American Diet) to a real food , nutrient-dense  Paleo Diet. I don’t eat anything that is in a package. All meals are made from scratch without sugar or additives, preservatives, dyes, artificial flavorings, taste enhancers (e.g., MSG), emulsifiers, hydrogenated fats and high fructose corn syrup, to name a few. Eating sugar and other junk is like throwing gas on the pathogenic fire. All of these alter the gut flora in favor of the bad guys. It is VERY important to change the terrain so that the good flora can win.

A junk food diet does not provide the necessary vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and essential fatty acids required to heal a broken and sick body. Remember, we are what we eat!

2. Overtake them
We need more beneficial bacteria to crowd out the bad.  Every culture had their own fermented foods that were an integral part of their diets. Homemade fermented foods like beet kvass, sauerkraut, kefir and kombucha are a few that I like to eat on a regular basis. Many of the store bought fermented foods are no longer teeming with good live bacteria.  These are often heat-treated to make them shelf stable. Fermented foods are easy and inexpensive to make. I know that when I eat some of these every day I  have  more energy and much better bowel function. There are a few good probiotic supplements that you can buy at the health food store. I like to use these when I travel. I usually like to take a probiotic capsule just before bed. I just buy reputable brands from my health food store that are on sale. I find 50 – 100 billion count is a good amount for me now that I am in remission. In my experience it is good to rotate brands to introduce new strains into the intestinal tract.

3. Poison them
Herbs have been used for centuries to control chronic infections. Here is where you’ll find a basic bowel cleanse,  herbal parasite recipe ,Buhner’s lyme original protocol and babesia protocol.  I much prefer using herbs as opposed to pharmaceuticals. Herbs have the ability to kill many different types of pathogens and are typically much easier on the liver and kidneys.

There are also many common foods that will help to kill and control the pathogenic load. While in Mexico I love to eat different peppers, garlic, onions,  papaya, pineapple, pumpkin seeds, coconut, carrots and of course, my green smoothies.

4. Digest them
Proteolytic enzymes (or proteases) refer to the various enzymes that digest  protein. These enzymes taken on an empty stomach help to dissolve and break down parasites. These were especially helpful to eliminate roundworms and tapeworms. Pineapple contains bromelain and papaya contains papain. Both of these can be consumed on an empty stomach for best results. I also used proteolytic enzyme capsules before bed on an empty stomach when I had a very bad roundworm infection. I found the Now Super Enzymes were quite effective as were the more expensive Zymex 11 by Standard Process.

5. Burn them
Hypochlorhydria occurs when the stomach does not produce adequate hydrochloric acid. This is an often overlooked problem for those with sibo(small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), candida and parasites.  Hydrochloric acid acts to sterilize your food and  kills any new harmful parasites or bacteria from entering your system.  Those of us with low stomach acid will be more susceptible to gut infections.  These include gastro-enteritis, enteroviruses like Epstein-Barr virus, Coxsackle virus and parasites. If there is an overgrowth of bacteria and yeast in the stomach foods will simply ferment instead of being digested.

Stomach acid is important for the breakdown of food and absorption of important minerals like calcium, iron, sodium, copper, selenium and magnesium. It is required for the digestion of protein. Without proper stomach acid it is common to experience mineral deficiencies. My first hair test revealed that I was low in every mineral except two.

I was told to take one betaine hydrochloric capsule with each meal. If there is no burning sensation, then increase by 1 capsule. As soon as I felt a burning sensation, then I backed down one capsule and stayed at that dose. I remember working my way up to 5 capsules per meal. I had very, very low stomach acid when I was fighting these chronic infections. You can read more about low stomach acid here.

Note – Reducing the pathogenic load can be quite a challenge as healing takes time. Please read my article on dealing with die-off reactions. If you have been at this for a long time and can’t get over these infections please read this article. 10 Reasons You Can’t get Rid of Lyme Disease, Parasites, Candida and other Co-infections

Today
Now that I am in remission I simply do a routine parasite cleanse every 6 months with my herbal recipe. I also continue to eat foods that I know are beneficial in eliminating and controlling parasites. I no longer need the proteolytic enzymes but do take a digestive support based on my biannual hair test recommendations. My digestion is good and bowel function is normal. All of this took time to correct as I had been sick for over 20 years. It can be done and I am now in the best shape and health of my entire life.
